Basic Airbrush Lesson:
Edges (Part Two)

For this airbrush lesson you'll need the following:

  • your airbrush equipment
  • transparent paint in any dark color
  • a piece of cardstock (any stiff card will do)
  • white scrap paper
  • a handful of pennies

For this basic lesson we'll be learning about edges...again.

This lesson just re-enforces what we learned in Basic Airbrush Lesson: Edges (Part One).

Scroll down when you are ready to begin!

Step 1

Gather all your materials (if you haven't already).

Step 2

Place your piece of cardstock (your "shield") onto your white paper and hold it down firmly. Spray the edge as shown below.

Step 3

Now remove the shield and examine the edge. See how crisp it is?

Step 4

Now place two pennies onto your white paper, a few inches apart.

Step 5

Place your shield over the two pennies and hold it firmly in place with your fingers. Spray the edge with paint once you have the shield in place.

Step 6

Remove the shield and examine this edge. Compare it to the previous edge you made. It is a little blurry, right?

Step 7

Now try it again with two pennies stacked on top of one another. Then three.

(Note that the stacking of pennies is just done for demonstration purposes in this lesson - in "real life" you would just hold the shield a short distance away from your work to create the softer edges).

Below is the completed demonstration piece showing 0, 1, 2, and 3 penny edges.
