Airbrush Feature: Iwata Revolution CR
The Iwata Revolution CR is a GREAT airbrush for beginners!!! It's high quality, durable, hefty and fairly CHEAP for an Iwata! These typically run around $70 US! Amazing value! And further more... this was my first airbrush... so it is bound to be good ;) The Nitty GrittyI would like to just blather on about the brush, but I feel that some "organization" is required.... so boring ol' bullets is what you get! The Iwata Revolution CR features the following: Gravity Feed with 1/3 ounce cupDual Action0.5 mm Needle / Nozzle combinationTeflon Needle PackingScrew in NozzleFine Line to 1.5 inch Spray PatternSo what does all that mean? Let me break it down.... 1. The gravity feed means it's well suited for uses that don't require gobs of paint (i.e. you wouldn't paint a wall mural with this ... well you could... but it would take a while). If you are not sure what gravity feed is read this. 2. It's dual action ... which is great! And, if you don't know what that means read this. 3. The 0.5 mm needle allows this airbrush to paint thicker, heavier paints like textile paints. That doesn't mean that you can't use it with any other paint. I also find that the big needle (0.5 mm is big in the airbrush world) limits problems with clogging. 4. Teflon needle packing is featured on most (if not all) iwata airbrushes. The benefit of teflon is that it doesn't degrade when used with solvent based paints (like urethanes). 5. Screw in nozzle.... one of the "bad things" that can happen to an airbrush is cracking or splaying of the nozzle. If that happens your airbrush will misbehave in a BIG way ... so, it is nice that the nozzle can be easily replaced. P.S. cracking or splaying the nozzle happens when the needle is inserted roughly... so careful! 6. The size of the spray pattern ... is well ... pretty self explanatory. I personally can't get hair line size lines out of mine - but I've seen people do it.... so it can be done. My Two CentsThings I really like about the Iwata Revolution CR are: The Quality: As soon as I took this baby out of the box I could tell it was well made. It has a lot of heft or weight to it, it feels durable and long lasting... and so far it has been. The Size: This airbrush is fairly big ... about 8 inches long... which I really liked when I first started out. Airbrushes tend to be a bit fiddly and fumbly to beginners because they are "dainty" (especially for guys) but this one has a nice comfortable fit in the hand. The Trigger: The trigger is ridged and indented ... so it is comfy and non slip. Also, the trigger is really really smooth. More Pictures!!This is the brush with the back end removed ... you can see the chuck nut that holds the needle in place. Broken down a bit further ... here I have removed the needle. And this is it taken apart 95% of the way (I don't mess with the nozzle which is still in it ... a "if it ain't broke..." approach). I won't go into explaining what all this stuff is here.... but wanted to show you all the bits! The VerdictThe Iwata Revolution CR is an all-round great airbrush! I highly recommend it for beginners and novices alike!
